Carrefour said on Monday it had entered a partnership with GreenYellow for the installation of solar panels in its French stores.
The renewable energy company will install and operate solar panels in the car parks of around 350 of the retailer’s hypermarkets and supermarkets in France.
Under the agreement, GreenYellow will finance the photovoltaic equipment that are expected to generate about 450 GWh of electricity per year.
This should cover about 20% of Carrefour stores’ power demand, the French retailer said in a statement.
GreenYellow currently has 1,320 solar plants installed or under construction, according to data published on its website.
The company was controlled by French supermarket chain Casino before being sold to French investment firm Ardian in 2022.
