Checkout is proud to announce the finalists in the inaugural National Grocery Retail Awards.
The new awards are an amalgam of Ireland’s premier awards for fresh food retailing, the Checkout Best in Fresh awards, and the leading awards for suppliers to the industry the National Retail Supplier awards.
“The new National Grocery Retail Awards continue the important work carried out by our previous two awards,” says Maev Martin, editor, Checkout magazine.
“They highlight best in class retailing and honour the companies and suppliers that help Ireland’s pioneering stores and retail chains to achieve levels of service and product excellence that set them apart from their competitors," she says.
"By amalgamating these awards, and adding some new award categories, Checkout is creating the most prestigious and inclusive awards for the grocery retail sector in Ireland. As such, the National Grocery Retail Awards is set to become one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the Irish grocery retail calendar,” Martin adds.
In addition, the National Grocery Retail Awards also includes several new and exciting categories, including the award for Ireland’s Retailer of the Year, Best Off-Licence, Best Cash & Carry, Best Sustainability Initiative, Best Private Label Range, and Best Community Initiative.
The winners of the inaugural National Grocery Retail Awards will be revealed in a virtual awards ceremony on Monday, 20 December at 12pm.
All stores that entered the National Grocery Retail Awards were visited at least twice and, in some cases, on multiple occasions during the judging process.
To get through the first round of judging, each store was subjected to a comprehensive review by a mystery shopper, who has a checklist of more than 100 factors that they take into consideration when assessing the store.
For those lucky enough to get through to the second round, there were visitations by the Checkout panel of judges.
