CSO figures show that September 2015 saw an increase of 0.3% in the volume of retail sales when compared with August of this year, and an 8.6% annual increase.
According to the Central Statistics Office, if Motor Trades are excluded, the increase of volume sales in September versus August goes up to 0.7%, but is only 8% up from the same month last year.
The largest month-on-month volume increase were in Other Retail Sales (+1.9%), in Non-Specialised Stores (+1.2%) and in Fuel (+0.6%).
However, the sectors that saw a decrease include Furniture and Lighting (-2.6%), Food Beverages & Tobacco (-2.2%) and Bars (-1.6%).
When it comes to value of retail sales, September 2015 saw a decrease of –0.1% compared with August 2015, even excluding Motor Trades, but there was an annual increase of 4.1%.
