Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky and his partners are prepared to hire former Metro and Lactalis executive Philippe Palazzi as the new boss of French supermarket chain Casino, should their refinancing offer for the debt-laden company succeed, Les Echos reported at the weekend. Kretinsky could not immediately be reached for comment outside working hours, reports Reuters. Palazzi did not immediately respond to a message sent via LinkedIn. Casino's management and court-appointed mediators have set a July 27 deadline to enter an agreement in principle on the terms of the financial restructuring.
Did you know ...? Polish retail chain Eurocash Group has concluded loan agreements worth PLN 1 billion (€220 million) with a consortium of eight banks, reports ESMmagaine.com. The agreements comprise a five-year term loan worth PLN 456 million (€102.4 million), a three-year revolving loan worth PLN 445 million (with an option to extend), and a three-year overdraft facility up to PLN 100 million (€22.5 million), the company said in a statement.
Did you know ...? Dutch retailer Albert Heijn has announced that the sales of tobacco and related products in its stores will cease as of 1 January 2024. The move aligns with the Dutch government's announcement that it is preparing a legislation to end tobacco sales at supermarkets as of 1 July 202, reports ESMmagine.com. Since 1 July 2023, the retail chain stopped the sales of these products online.Albert Heijn added that it supports the movement towards creating a 'smoke-free generation' and believes its efforts will contribute towards achieving lasting behavioural change.
