Moldova will face a shortage of storage capacity for its 2023 grain harvest if it doesn’t ban imports of Ukrainian grain and oilseeds, the Moldovan farmers’ union announced on Monday. Moldova announced late last week that it might ban imports of Ukrainian grains, as local farmers were facing losses due to a drop in global prices, reports Reuters. “If Moldova does not restrict grain imports from Ukraine, with its stocks of ten million tonnes, it will be deposited in Moldovan silos, and we will face a problem when we do not have storage for the new harvest,” said Alexandru Slusari, head of the Farmers’ Power association.
Did you know ...? Discounter Aldi has opened ten new stores in Spain since the start of the year, with two new openings planned in May: in Madrid and the Balearic Islands. In the period from January to April, the discounter opened new outlets in Alzira (Valencia), Andalusia, Catalonia, Madrid, Valencia, Galicia, the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands. With the opening in Alzira, Aldi has opened three new stores in the Valencia region in less than a month, taking its total in the community to 67 supermarkets.
Did you know ...? SPAR has announced the opening of its first store in Paraguay, which also marks the entry of the retail group into Latin America. The store opened on 5 May in the city of Luque, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion, reports ESMmagazine.com. SPAR has granted a licence to the Amiria Group to operate the brand in Paraguay. The Amiria Group is a locally owned and operated business that runs stores under the Los Jardines and Food Production Centre Innal brands.
