Dunnes Stores has announced its intention to buy two food businesses, Whelan Food & Meat Processors Limited and Tipperary Sustainable Food Company Limited.
The retailer's bid for the two operations was notified to the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission.
Both Whelan Food & Meat Processors and Tipperary Sustainable Food Company are involved in the retail sale of meat and related products, an indication that Dunnes may be looking to enhance its fresh offering in stores.
Both companies are owned by butcher Pat Whelan, who is behind the celebrated James Whelan Butchers in Clonmel.
