A survey of Eurospar retailers has found that 89% believe the development of out-of-town retail centres is the biggest challenge facing local store operators in Ireland today.
The survey was carried out as part of the BWG Foods-operated retail brand's conference, which took place in Dublin's Marker Hotel last week. Retailers also cited emigration (63%) and local rates (59%) as key challenges facing local operators.
However, almost half of Eurospar retailers (48%) are predicting business growth this year, while 78% say that they plan to invest in their business over the next 12 months.
There are currently 54 Eurospar supermarkets located in the Republic of Ireland.
