Events in support of Dunnes Stores workers are taking place across the country from today, ahead of a strike set for the 2nd of April.
The industrial action comes after Dunnes Stores’ refusal to meet with representatives from Mandate Trade Union over contract hours and pay.
According to a survey conducted by the union, many Dunnes Stores workers are on part-time flexible contracts with unpredictable weekly hours, with 85% of workers surveyed also claiming that insecurity of hours and rostering is used as a method of control.
In a statement, Mandate Trade Union said, “The workers have been forced to take industrial action after their employer refused to meet with their representatives, Mandate Trade Union, and also refused to attend the Labour Relations Commission (LRC) or the Labour Court.”
