In a documentary set to be screened tonight, Senatory Feargal Quinn reveals that the decision to sell the Superquinn chain was "comparatively easy", as developers began to "value our sites much more than we did."
In the documentary, Feargal Quinn: Supermarket Revolutionary, which will be broadcast at 9pm on TV3, Quinn says: “I remember somebody saying to me, ‘I can’t believe you don’t put eight floors on top of that, two levels of car parking underneath. You could make much more money’.
“I went to the family and said, ‘others value this and I’m getting to the stage that I’m not going to start getting into construction and building, do you want to?’ And they didn’t."
Quinn also reveals in the documentary that he has not taken a Seanad salary for the past 20 years, initially donating it to charity, before declining to take a salary at all.
