Now in its 17th year, Blas na hÉireann (the Irish Food Awards) is the biggest competition for quality Irish produce on the island of Ireland.
Considered to be the ‘Oscars of the food world’, the prestigious Blas na hÉireann awards celebrate and reward the very best-tasting Irish food and drink products, and the passionate, committed producers who make them.
This year’s awards were presented on 29 September at a ceremony in Dingle, Co. Kerry.
Big Winners
McCarthy’s Eurospar Kilkenny was celebrating after being awarded Silver and Bronze medals at the prestigious Blas na hÉireann, Irish Food Awards. John McCarthy’s Eurospar took home the bronze medal in Bakery Category for their sumptuous Tin Loaf while their Gourmet Lamb Noisettes took home the silver medal in the Lamb Category. Commenting, Peter Dwan, Sales Director, Eurospar, said, “Eurospar is extremely proud of the achievements of John McCarthy and all the team in McCarthy’s Eurospar Kilkenny. It’s a great honour to be recognised at these most prestigious Irish food awards. We are all delighted to celebrate with John and his team on their achieving Silver and Bronze medals in two distinct categories, which highlights the high quality of their overall offering.”
Aldi and its network of Irish-based suppliers and producers were, once again, big winners at this year’s Blas na hÉireann, taking home an impressive haul of 43 awards across several categories, including 13 gold medals, 16 silver medals and 14 bronze medals, retaining Aldi’s position as Ireland’s most-awarded discount retailer at the key food awards for 2023.
Tesco Ireland received an impressive 45 awards at this year’s event, in another hugely successful year for the retailer and its producers.
Centra’s Irish food producers claimed 28 awards at this year’s honours.
SuperValu took home a remarkable 94 Blas Na hÉireann awards at the ceremony, in another winning year for the retailer and its local producers. SuperValu’s own-brand and Food Academy producers picked up 94 awards – winning 26 gold, 24 silver, 30 bronze, five Chef’s Larder and nine speciality awards.
