Irish Exports Reached Record €224bn In 2024 – CSO

Irish exports in 2024 reached €224 billion – an increase of €28 billion, or 4%, on 2023 – according to the latest data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

The CSO noted that unadjusted goods exports were €15.4 billion in December 2024 – an increase of €1.7 billion on the same period in the previous year.

Unadjusted goods imports fell by €309.3 million, to €11.7 billion, in December 2024, with the final import value for the year reaching €133.6 billion.

The CSO added that exports to the US last year rose by 34%, to €72.6 billion – up from €54 billion in 2023.

This result came ahead of threatened tariffs from US president Donald Trump.

The US was the main non-EU export destination for Ireland, accounting for €5.2 billion, or 34%, of total exports in December 2024.

Within the EU, Ireland sent €5.6 billion worth of goods exports in December 2024, of which €1.7 billion went to the Netherlands, €975 million went to Germany, and €774.3 million went to France.

Exports to the UK accounted for 6% of total exports across the year, with December’s exports reaching €1 billion.

However, exports to the UK over the year decreased by 10%, to €15.7 billion, in 2024, when compared to €17.5 billion in 2023.

Imports for 2024 were to the value of €133.6 billion – down by 5% on 2023, when they were to the value of €140.3 billion.

Unadjusted goods imports fell by 3%, to €11.7 billion, in December 2024 – again, below the €11.9 billion recorded in the previous December.

‘Record Level’

Commenting on the news, a statistician in the CSO’s International Trade in Goods Division, Jane Murmanje, said, “In 2024, Ireland’s exports of goods reached a record level of €224 billion – an increase of €28 billion, compared with 2023.

“Imports of goods in 2024 were €134 billion – €6.7 billion lower than the 2023 level, but €30 billion higher than in 2021.

“In December 2024, Ireland’s unadjusted exports of goods increased by €1.7 billion to €15.5 billion, compared with December 2023.

“The unadjusted imports for December 2024 were valued at €11.7 billion – a decrease of €309 million on December 2023.

“Seasonally adjusted imports were €11 billion in December 2024.

“When seasonally adjusted, exports of goods fell by €2.8 billion, to €17.4 billion, when compared with November 2024.

“Exports of goods to the United States were €72.6 billion in 2024 – an increase of €18.6 billion [+34%] on 2023 – while imports of goods from the US were €22.5 billion – a decrease of 2% on 2023.”
