The ‘Join Spar and Ray for 5k’ series of lunchtime runs, organized by Spar in association, with Athletics Ireland, commenced on September 15. Over 6,000 people have signed up to take part in the series, which takes place in five locations across Ireland this week.
‘Join Spar and Ray for 5K’ is now in its fourth year, the first run of this year’s series, which took place in Letterkenny, having been lead by Danny O’Carroll (Buster from Mrs Brown’s Boys).
The series also visits Athlone, Limerick and Cork, finishing in Phoenix Park, Dublin on Friday.
‘Join Spar and Ray for 5K’ aims to get runners off of the couch, by inspiring them to take up the 5k challenge and is organised in association with local athletics clubs.
Commenting, Anne Gallagher, SPAR Marketing Manager said: “At SPAR we’ve been successfully promoting leisure running in Ireland over the past number of years through our support for events including the SPAR Great Ireland Run and the ‘Join SPAR and Ray for 5k’ initiative. For us it’s a really meaningful approach to sponsorship as more people aim to get out and get healthy.”
