Kavanagh’s Supervalu stores across Mayo have presented a cheque for €103,156 to the Mayo Roscommon Hospice, as part of the stores' 'Help Us to Help Others' campaign. The funds were collected through a series of fundraisers arranged by the SuperValu stores, and will be used by the Hospice to purchase a site in Castlebar, for the construction of a new medical care facility.
The Taoiseach Enda Kenny gave his approval for the medical facility to be built on September 25, so the presentation of the SuperValu cheque was a timely donation for the Hospice. Including their recent donation, Kavanagh’s SuperValu stores have now raised over €275,000 for cancer patients and hospice care over the last three years.
Managing director of the Kavanagh group, Noel Kavanagh praised the contributions of the local communities, saying, “Without their generosity we would not be here today with a cheque for over €100,000. It’s astonishing in hard times what can be achieved.
“We are very proud that the funding and success of the activities came as a result of the loyal customers who visit our stores and got behind the various events for the cause. The fact that these funds stay in our county to provide what will be a wonderful new facility for the care of cancer patients is a very proud moment for all involved.”
The company also made a donation to the charity each time a customer of SuperValu in the Mayo stores used their Real Rewards Card. The ‘Help Us to Help Others’ campaign was launched in 2011, as part of the Kavanagh Group’s corporate social responsibility strategy.
