Lidl has today (6 March) confirmed that it had plans to build a new larger store on Fortunestown lane, in Tallagh, following the unforeseen demolition of the store on Friday last.
Nine people were arrested by gardaí in Tallagh, on Friday night after a large digger was used to break into the building and the store was looted during Storm Emma.
Speaking with Checkout, a spokesperson for the German retailer said, “We can confirm that it had been our intention to build a new larger store on Fortunestown Lane. Given the events of Friday last, that decision is now under review.”
“We currently have engineers and consultants on site assessing the significant damage caused to the building and we will await their recommendations before making a final decision regarding future plans.”
