Lidl Ireland Launches Lidl Plus LGFA Club Rewards Scheme

Lidl Ireland has announced the return of its Lidl Plus LGFA Club Rewards Scheme, which allows shoppers to support local LGFA clubs by using the Lidl Plus app.

Continuing the momentum of its ‘Get Behind the Fight’ campaign to smash inequality in sport and provide #SeriousSupport to the Ladies’ Gaelic Football Association (LGFA), the stamp card initiative will enable communities to support clubs and earn rewards.

From Monday 17 February, Lidl customers can register through the Lidl Plus app and sign up to be part of the rewards scheme.

This, in turn, means that they can start earning rewards for local LGFA clubs – from Lidl-sponsored jerseys to €5,000 in cash funding.

The top-performing club in the country will score a cash prize of €50,000, and the three runners-up will earn up to €10,000 in funding.

Now in its fourth year, the Lidl Plus LGFA Rewards Scheme has seen more than 800 LGFA teams benefit from new jerseys and up to €370,000 in funding over the last three years, with more than €700,000 invested in local teams altogether.

Last year, Coláiste Cholmcille in Donegal scored the top prize of €50,000 for securing the most stamps, while Carlow’s Presentation De La Salle, Cork’s St Mary’s Secondary School Mallow and Galway’s Coláiste Bhaile Chláir were runners-up, each receiving €10,000 from Lidl.

Since 2016, Lidl has invested more than €10 million through its partnership with the LGFA, promoting equality for the game and its players.

How It Works

To participate, shoppers download the Lidl Plus app and sign up to the rewards scheme.

Then, each time the registered user spends more than €50 at his/her/their local Lidl and scans the app at the till between now and Sunday 16 March, he/she/they will receive a stamp on his/her/their digital stamp card.

Shoppers can earn multiple stamps if they spend a multiple of €50 in a single shop.

Once they have collected four stamps, users can submit the completed stamp card via the app, adding it to their chosen club’s total.

Each club that receives a minimum of 50 stamps will receive a reward.

‘Encouraging Young Girls’

Speaking about the initiative, the head of partnerships and events at Lidl Ireland, Christine McIntyre, said, “At Lidl, we are proud to be a leader for female sports in Ireland, having launched the first major sponsorship of female sport in Ireland with the Ladies’ Gaelic Football Association back in 2016.

“We’re super-excited to bring back our Lidl Plus LGFA Club Rewards Scheme, which has been a huge success in raising awareness and much-needed support for LGFA clubs all over the country.

“Support starts at the grassroots level, and it’s crucial that we are encouraging young girls to get involved and stay in sports from an early age.

“By continuing this reward scheme and using our Lidl Plus stamp cards to raise awareness and funds, we hope to give LGFA clubs across the country access to more resources.

“It’s a community effort. Every stamp customers collect brings local clubs one step closer to earning those big rewards.

“So, get involved, spread the word, and let’s support our local clubs like never before!”

‘Level The Playing Field’

TG4 All-Ireland winner and Dublin LGFA player Carla Rowe also commented on the scheme, saying, “The Lidl Plus LGFA Rewards Scheme is just one of the many ways that Lidl has shown its serious support for Ladies’ Gaelic Football, and it’s great to see the momentum already behind it.

“It’s a brilliant opportunity for our clubs across the country to raise much-needed funds to help build on the progress we’ve made, and to continue to encourage participation and growth in the sport.

“I would encourage friends, families, colleagues and local communities to get involved and join the movement to support the Lidl Plus LGFA stamp cards rewards scheme.

“By simply shopping with Lidl and using the Lidl Plus app until 16 March, shoppers can make a significant impact on their local Ladies’ Gaelic Football club.

“Rallying together not only fosters community spirit, but also supports young female athletes and helps level the playing field for women’s sports across the country.

“Join us in this exciting fundraiser, and let’s make a difference together, providing better funding and opportunities for girls to thrive in sport!”
