Lidl Ireland officially opened the doors of its newest store in Ballysimon this morning, bringing the store network to six in Limerick and 183 across Ireland.
Limerick Ladies Gaelic Footballer Yvonne Lee joined the store team this morning to cut the ribbon and let in the queuing crowds, who were eager to be the first shoppers in the new store.
As well as opening day entertainment and middle aisle offers, queuing customers got the chance to take part in a lucky dip and win a share of €1,00 worth of shopping vouchers to spend in-store.
The opening also featured tasty in-store sampling as part of the celebrations.
Representatives from local charity Milford Hospice were also in attendance to receive a donation of €1,000 in Lidl vouchers from the Ballysimon store team.
As part of the retailer’s ongoing commitment to supporting Ladies Gaelic Football, members from the local LGFA club Claughaun GAA also received a special donation of Lidl-sponsored training jerseys.
Store
Located off the Groody Road, beside Limerick Educated Together Secondary School and the new Bon Secours Hospital which is under construction, the new store has created 30 permanent jobs for the area.
Reflecting the retailer’s established ‘concept’ design, Lidl Ballysimon features a spacious shop floor with wide aisles, self-service checkouts, two Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) machines and long tills, as well as an in-store bakery and off-licence.
Externally, the store benefits from regenerative landscaping and a spacious customer car park with dedicated EV charging spaces.
Sustainability is at the core of the new store, with the retailer’s concept incorporating an ISO 50001-certified energy management system, high-performing energy efficient technologies and dedicated EV charging spaces, as well as PV solar panels to reduce carbon emissions and support Lidl’s ambitions to achieve net-zero by 2050.
