Lidl Ireland has announced a new supply deal with Monaghan-based McCaghey Turkeys which will see its products available across all 223 stores across the island of Ireland.
The new deal comes ahead of the Christmas season, which Lidl Ireland predicts will see shoppers take home more than 90,000 turkeys.
Among the festive products available at Lidl stores are McCaghey’s Traditional Fresh Turkeys and Deluxe Bronze Free Range Slow Grown Turkeys, as well as its Boned & Rolled Stuffed Turkey Joint and Boneless Turkey Breast Joint, which have seen a surge in demand from shoppers prioritising convenience when preparing Christmas dinner.
Established in 1951, McCaghey Turkeys has grown to become one of Ireland’s largest family-owned turkey processors, offering “the gold standard in turkey products” with all of its turkey farms fully Bord Bia approved.
McCaghey Turkeys has supplied its products to Lidl Ireland since 2009, and in the past five years alone Lidl has grown its seasonal range of McCaghey’s products from 14 to 22.
Since the beginning of the partnership, McCaghey Turkeys has enjoyed strong growth in the sector and is now a major employer in Co. Monaghan, with a team of 150 staff.
‘Finest And Freshest Poultry Products’
Pat McCaghey of McCaghey Turkeys said, “McCaghey’s Turkeys has been operating for three generations, since 1951, and we’re very proud to have grown the business from a farm of just nine birds to becoming Ireland’s largest family-owned turkey processor.
“What has remained from day one is our commitment to guaranteeing the finest and freshest poultry products and we know that when it comes to quality and taste, we offer the best of the best.
“It’s an enormous privilege to farm and supply Christmas turkeys which we know are enjoyed by thousands of families across Ireland every year.
“Working in partnership with Lidl, we’re delighted to secure this new contract and provide even more families with Christmas turkey.
“Whether it’s our traditional fresh turkeys large enough to feed full families, or our convenience range of turkey breast joints, we’ve got Lidl shoppers covered this Christmas.”
‘Supporting Local Suppliers’
Robert Hatton, buying director at Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland, added, “At Lidl, we are dedicated to supporting local suppliers and providing the very highest quality Irish produce to our customers at market leading value.
“This latest supply deal in our ongoing partnership with McCaghey Turkeys reflects that commitment and we’re very proud to be able to offer 100% Irish turkeys farmed to the highest standards.
“We’ve seen serious demand for our turkeys, including a real surge in shoppers opting for smaller turkey joints which are more convenient to cook with minimal preparation time.
“This year will be no exception and we predict to sell over 90,000 turkeys before Christmas Day.
“Customers know they can rely on us for the best quality, locally sourced produce at affordable prices, so we’re preparing for a busy festive period.”
Earlier this year, Lidl Ireland released its latest Supplier & Business Partner Impact Report which found that more than €1.6 billion worth of goods and services were procured from Irish businesses, highlighting the retailer’s commitment to Irish suppliers.
