Lidl Ireland To Maintain 2024 Living Wage As 2025 Recommendation Reduced

Lidl Ireland has announced that it will maintain the 2024 Living Wage rate of €14.80, despite the reduction in the recommended wage for 2025.

The first major nationwide employer to commit to paying the Living Wage in 2015 has announced that it will not follow the recommendation by the Living Wage Technical Group to reduce the rate by €0.05, to €14.75, for 2025.

Last year, Lidl invested €3 million to introduce the 2024 rate, which benefitted 2,000 employees in Ireland, as all other employees made in excess of that rate.

The Living Wage is the independently assessed recommended rate of income considered necessary to have a socially acceptable standard of living.

Last year’s adoption of the 2024 Living Wage rate of €14.80 followed a €14 million investment in raises by the company in March 2023.

Speaking about this latest commitment, the chief people officer at Lidl Ireland & Northern Ireland, Maeve McCleane, said, “At Lidl, we value our colleagues as one of our greatest assets and are committed to supporting them with an industry-leading package of employee compensation and benefits packages.

“We are conscious that although inflation is easing, the pressures of the cost of living remain.

Current benefits include paid maternity and paternity leave, paid fertility leave, for employees undergoing IVF treatments, supports for employees who have experienced domestic violence, including ten days of paid leave, and the removal of a mandatory retirement age.
