Sligo County Council recently gave a Notification of Decision to Grant planning permission for the development of a new store for Lidl Ireland in Tubbercurry, Co Sligo.
The project includes an investment of €6 million in the locality and would create 35 new permanent jobs with the retailer and support 80 more through the construction phase.
Lidl Ireland said that it welcomes this decision and it hopes to progress with this development as soon as possible.
"We have had a long-standing desire to offer a superior shopping experience to the vibrant and thriving community of Tubbercurry," commented Brian Smyth, property executive, Lidl Ireland.
"We believe the development of this new state-of-the-art store will bring significant local investment, new jobs and market leading value and quality to the local community.
"Subject to receipt of a final grant from Sligo County Council, we look forward to starting work on the detailed design as soon as possible, with a view to start construction in the not too distant future."
Store Features
Lidl’s proposed plans for the new location on Circular Road are set to incorporate a range of sustainability features, including an ISO 50001 certified Energy Management System, electric vehicle charger spaces, and a solar panel system.
The new store will also feature a spacious interior layout, high ceilings and wide aisles.
Supporting Local Communities
To date, Lidl have contributed significantly to the communities in which they operate through initiatives such as Jigsaw and FoodCloud, raising more than €1,000,000 through colleague fundraising and community support, and donating over two million meals to local food banks.
Lidl Ireland said it is 'determined to support the local communities of their stores and will strive to give back to the community of Tubbercurry' with the construction of its new store.
