Lucid Direct – a British marketing and sales, design and retail consultancy company – have been appointed category partner for Musgrave’s Irish business in a bid to increase newspaper and magazine sales in Centra and SuperValu stores.
The company – who helped make Tesco in the newspaper and magazine retail market in the UK – will be charged with creating a core range of newspapers and magazines with a “manager’s selection” to be sold across Musgrave’s Irish portfolio, maximising existing sales and exploring untapped opportunities within the market.
It is understood that the implementation of these changes will take place in September
At present, Musgrave is the largest retailer of newspapers and magazines in Ireland, but the category as whole has been in decline for some time now.
Recent figures released by the CSO indicated that sales of newspapers (along with books and stationary) were down 9.9% in May of this year compared with the same month of 2013.
