Mace Beaumont Recognised With Environmental Award

Mace recently won the award for Business Environment Initiative and Sustainability Initiative for its innovative eco-friendly planter.

The Dublin City Neighbourhoods Competition presented the award for the retailer’s Beaumont store planter.

BWG’s retail development team designed and installed the planter as part of the store’s recent refurbishment.

It ensures that any rainwater that falls on the roof is used in the planter.

This then ensures that any toxins and pollutants don’t enter the local ecosystems, and instead water sustains the plants in the planter.

Mace Beaumont was refurbished and its new look revealed in May, at which point Kevin Caulfield took over as store manager.

In a profile with Checkout in June, Caulfield told editor Maev Martin about a number of sustainability improvements made to the store.

As well as the planters, the store also introduced blue curtains in the freezer rooms that reduce energy by 30%, aerators on taps that reduce water consumption by 20%, LED lights that are up to 90% more efficient than traditional light bulbs, water-based paints instead of oil-based paints, and timber from sustainably managed forests.

The Dublin City Neighbourhoods Competition is an annual competition for communities, schools and businesses in the city, organised by Dublin City Council, with the aim of bringing about a cleaner, greener environment and to make local areas more attractive for the benefit of all city residents and visitors.

Organised by the waste management section of the city council, Dublin North Central, for two decades, the awards have recognised the efforts of communities, schools and businesses to bring about a cleaner, greener environment.
