Mace retailers and their staff across Ireland are signing up to the Mace ‘Run to 40’ for the Debra initiative, which is raising funds for Debra Ireland.
The ‘Run to 40’ concept marks a significant milestone for Emma Fogarty, who is a Debra patient ambassador and board member who was born with epidermolysis bullosa (EB).
Despite her parents being told that she would not live past one week, Emma beat all the odds and turned 40 this year.
While this an incredible story for Emma, unfortunately, it is very rare for someone with EB.
To mark her miraculous 40th birthday, actor and Debra ambassador Colin Farrell is taking on ‘Run to 40’ by running the Irish Life Dublin Marathon in her honour.
Farrell is hoping to raise €40,000 for Debra Ireland.
Now, Mace retailers and their staff are helping to raise funds by committing to joining the team with Emma Fogarty and Colin Farrell to support everyone impacted by EB in Ireland.
They will do this by either walking 40,000 steps or running 40km – individually or as part of a team – from 21 to 27 October and raising funds for Debra through initiatives in store and donations from selected Mace own-brand products.
Mace sales director Keith Crawford said that he was excited to take part in the fundraising.
Crawford said, “I am delighted that Mace will be supporting this campaign.
“Mace retailers are very proud to work with Debra as our official charity partner, and we hope that our support will continue to help improve the lives of everyone with EB.
“Our nationwide network of Mace retailers voted overwhelmingly to support this charity, and we look forward to doing so with initiatives like the Mace ‘Run to 40’.”
