Merchant’s Quay Shopping Centre To Be Redeveloped

Merchant’s Quay Shopping Centre is due to be redeveloped, current Friends First have announced. O’Callaghan Properties first developed the centre in 1988.

"The existing mall will be relocated directly next to Marks and Spencer which will allow for a row of larger units to be located between the mall and Merchant’s Quay," Savills said in a statement.

"All pedestrian connections between the existing anchor tenants will be maintained and ultimately enhanced. The front façade of the shopping centre will also be redeveloped providing modern frontage directly onto Patrick Street."

The redevelopment aims to enhance the current tenant mix, which currently includes the likes of Debenhams, Dunnes Stores and SuperValu. Once full planning permission has been received, development will begin, with a predicted completion date of Autumn 2015.

Savills says this is "a welcome upgrade to Cork’s retail centre and will benefit and enhance the current offering in the City Centre."
