Musgrave Group To Acquire Meath’s Healy Supermarkets

Musgrave Group has agreed to buy Healy Supermarkets, which operates a SuperValu store and a newsagent in Dunshauglin, Co. Meath, Business Plus has reported.

The owner of brands such as SuperValu, Centra, Mace and Daybreak has notified the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) of its intention to purchase the stores.

The body will subsequently decide whether to clear the sale, the details of which were not disclosed.

Healy Supermarkets brought in a reported annual turnover of €17.9 million last year – an annual increase of 8.5% – as profits fell by approximately 6.4%.

Paul and Mandy Healy own the stores, employing a total of 110 staff members.

In a statement about the takeover, Musgrave noted, ‘Musgrave can confirm it has agreed to acquire SuperValu Dunshauglin.

‘The acquisition is subject to approval by the CCPC. We want to thank Paul and Mandy Healy for the exceptional commitment and dedication they have shown to the community in Dunshauglin since taking over the store 22 years ago.

‘In that time, they have proved themselves to be exceptional retailers, continuously investing in the store and the dedicated service they provide customers.

‘We wish Paul and Mandy all the best as they move to this new phase.’

The statement added, ‘SuperValu Dunshauglin will continue to trade as normal with no impact on staff.’
