Musgrave Northern Ireland To Invest £3m In Solar Projects

Musgrave Northern Ireland plans to invest £3 million in solar projects for its sites across Northern Ireland, InsiderMedia.com reported this week.

The owner of retailers such as SuperValu and Centra announced that the initial phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

Subsequent phases of the roll-out – which intends to reduce energy consumption across the store network – will create more investment in sustainable energy into 2025 and beyond.

The company expects the solar panels to reduce its carbon emissions, thus saving a predicted 152 tonnes of CO2 each year across the Northern Irish sites.

There are nine locations involved in Phase One of the project: SuperValu Portstewart, SuperValu Irvinestown, SuperValu Fintona, SuperValu Newcastle, SuperValu Portglenone, SuperValu Limavady, Centra Mallusk, Musgrave MarketPlace Belfast and Musgrave Marketplace Derry.

‘Do All We Can’

Speaking about the project, the managing director for Musgrave Northern Ireland, Trevor Magill, said, “Across the Musgrave Group, we have a strong commitment to carry out business in the most sustainable way and are proud of our achievements so far – this project is another step on that journey.

“We have established a set of stretching and ambitious ESG goals, including our ambition to be net zero in our own operations by 2040, and together – with our retail partners, suppliers and customers – we will ensure we do all we can to meet that target.”

The managing director of Solmatix, Neville Bell, added, “This project highlights Musgrave’s forward-thinking approach to sustainability, and we’re proud to play a part in reducing their carbon footprint and supporting their journey towards net zero.

“Solar energy is one of the most effective ways to make a meaningful environmental impact, and together with Musgrave, we are helping to shape a greener, more sustainable future for communities.”
