Nearby Ireland Crowns Dunboyne Native Local Legend

Nearby Ireland has crowned its Local Legend after a months-long search for an individual making a real difference to his/her/their community.

Customers of Nearby Ireland have been visiting stores to nominate their local community group or person for all the great work that it or he/she/they does/do.

From community groups that make a real difference to individuals who go out of their way to help others, there has been an overwhelming response to the campaign.

Entries poured in online, through the retail chain’s web and social channels, and in local stores around the country.

The judging panel was finally able to narrow it down, allowing the Nearby team to surprise the winner, Una Curran.

Curran is a self-employed mindfulness and wellness teacher, and based on the influx of nominations alone at her local Nearby store, in Dunboyne, she was a worthy winner already.

Nearby Ireland presented her with a €500 cheque to reward her for the important work that she does, not only for her local community, but the wider community in Co. Meath and beyond.

Curran provides activities and social opportunities for adults and children with autism and learning difficulties in the Dunboyne area and beyond, through mindfulness and well-being classes.

‘So Deserving’

Speaking about the Local Legend, Nearby’s brand marketing officer, Ollie Donnelly, said, “The work that Una does throughout the community often goes unnoticed in the grand scheme of ‘self-help’ in the modern day.

“With more and more distinction being placed on mental well-being and mindfulness, this work is finally getting the recognition it deserves and is why we are delighted here at Nearby to not only be able to support in this way, but to raise awareness of these classes available from people like Una across the country.”

Louise Young, a client of Una’s, along with her child, was one of the many who nominated the teacher as a Local Legend.

Young said, “Una provides fantastic services for the kids and parents in her group – she’s so deserving of this award, as she not only works with special-needs children, but also the parents, and even siblings, making everyone feel valued in a comfortable setting.”

Nearby launched the competition to support the brand’s community campaign.

The campaign highlights Nearby’s place as a community hub for many around the country.

Young added about the store, “I think it’s really important that the likes of Nearby has these awards because it shows that they are part of the community and how much they value their customers by showcasing how important it is to have Local Legends nearby.”
