Nearly 45,000 Customers Shop in Striking Tesco Stores Over The Weekend

Trade remained strong as nearly 45,000 customers shop in striking Tesco stores over the weekend, according to a statement it issued today (20 February).

The 16 Tesco stores involved continue to remain fully open throughout the strike action by the Mandate trade union.

According to a Tesco spokesperson, “We continue to see more and more colleagues choosing to come to work in the 16 stores, rejecting the call from Mandate trade union to strike. Support on the picket lines dwindled across the weekend too, with numbers having to be inflated by non-Tesco workers in all locations. The reality is the strike has not been supported in the way Mandate expected by employees or customers.”

It also outlined that 'discussions on Friday evening between Tesco and Mandate ended inconclusively and there are no plans for further talks'.
