A new 10,000 square foot SuperValu store has been officially opened on the Ballymahon Road in Athlone, which will be operated by local retailer Mary Croughan.
The development on the new outlet represents a total investment of €5.3 million, as well as the creation of 55 new jobs.
Commenting on the opening, Martin Kelleher, Managing Director of SuperValu, said; “Today’s store opening demonstrates the strength of SuperValu’s independent community retail model, with this Athlone store owned and operated by local businesswoman Mary Croughan.”
Mary Croughan added that she is proud to be generating employment and boosting the local economy in Athlone.
“As an independent local retailer I am proud that I have the opportunity to invest locally by employing people from the Athlone area and sourcing from local suppliers.” she said.
Much like the recently opened Newbridge store, the new SuperValu in Athlone will also stock the Food Academy range, which showcases start-up food companies and gives small producers the chance to expand their businesses into supermarkets.
