Penneys Unveils Newly Refurbished Cork Store Following €4m Investment

Penneys has completed a €4 million renovation of its Wilton Shopping Centre store, in Cork, as part of its larger €250 million investment in improving store experiences across Ireland.

Originally opened in 2007, the now 31,800-square-foot store boasts a fresh new look and feel for customers.

With more retail space, Cork shoppers now have more choice than ever before in the new store, which offers a larger homeware department, as well as extended beauty and women’s clothing sections.

The refit has also seen 18 self-service tills installed alongside traditional tills, making it more convenient for shoppers who might be short on time.

Penneys has also installed updated branding and signage, in line with its recently refreshed look, along with new fixtures and fittings.

In a bid to reduce energy consumption, Penneys has installed energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the store, cutting consumption by half.

The major renovation project took three months to complete, with works taking place at night by a team of 15 contractors while the store was closed, enabling the store to run as usual during the day.

‘Fresh, Modern Feel’

Speaking about the upgrades, the head of Penneys Ireland and Northern Ireland, Fintan Costello, said, “We’re excited to reveal our newly refurbished store in the Wilton Shopping Centre in Cork – we know our loyal customers are going to love the transformation.

“The store has a fresh, modern feel, and an all-important enhanced shopping experience.

“With a much larger home department, shoppers can now find all their favourite home essentials and more in one place.

“This refurbishment reflects our ongoing commitment to investing in our Irish stores and towns, with more exciting projects planned for the future.”

The investment is part of Penneys’ commitment to invest over €250 million in Ireland by 2031, which includes developments, relocations and refurbishments around the country.

Penneys operates 38 stores in the Republic of Ireland and celebrated 55 years in business this year.

Known internationally as Primark, the retailer entered its 17th market this year, when it opened a store in Budapest, Hungary, and recently opened its 450th store globally in Florida.
