BWG Foods has entered into negotiations with An Post to discuss opening multiple ‘Post & Pay’ outlets within its stores. The outlets offer services similar to An Post including bill payment, sending letters, stamp purchase and mobile phone top ups.
An Post has been criticised for making a similar deal with Tesco in March this year, as many opposers believe it will ‘cannibalise’ the network. The potential deal with BWG Foods could see ‘Post & Pay’ outlets in Mace, Europspar and Spar stores.
Reportedly some of the outlets will be opened within 1.5 km of existing Post Offices, causing concern for Postmaster jobs in rural areas.
