Repak has reissued its call for applicants for the tenth annual Pakman Awards before the closing date of 31 August 2024 – in six weeks’ time.
Celebrating a decade of excellence, these awards honour best practice and achievements in recycling and waste management.
The awards honour efforts from businesses, organisations, community groups, and individuals across Ireland.
This year’s awards will see the addition of the Best Deposit Return Initiative and Best Single-Use Plastic Initiative categories.
The Pakman awards are one of the most prestigious accolades in the environmental sector.
The awards recognise those who demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and environmental efforts.
Over the past ten years, the Pakman Awards have recognised and rewarded many environmental champions across Ireland.
Last year, Repak introduced the first individual Pakman Award – ESG Leader – won by Sian Young from Britvic.
Young earned the award for her individual contributions to recycling and waste management.
In the same year, the Overall Pakman Award was won by a grassroots community project, the Killarney Park and the Ross, which helped integrate Killarney into a circular economy by paving the way as the first town in Ireland to phase out single-use coffee cups.
Repak will be awarding 13 categories this year.
These include the ESG Leader Award, the Environmental Education and Community Initiative Award, the Plastic Pledge Award, and the Business Recycling Champion Award.
Entrants should submit examples of their environmental efforts from the past 12 months, with details of categories available, at https://pakmanawards.repak.ie/.
Entries close on 31 August, and the ceremony will take place on 24 October, in the Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin.
‘Creating A More Sustainable Ireland’
Speaking about the tenth annual Pakman Awards, Repak CEO Zoë Kavanagh said, “This year marks a significant milestone for Repak, as we launch the tenth annual Pakman Awards, introducing two new categories: Best Deposit Return Initiative Award, and Best Single-Use Plastic Initiative Award.
“The Best Single-Use Plastic Initiative award highlights efforts to reduce the impact of single-use plastics, while the Best Deposit Return Initiative Award celebrates the achievements from the initiatives implemented across the country since the launch of the scheme, earlier this year.
“We invite all businesses, organisations, individuals, and community groups to enter this year’s awards and share their progress in creating a more sustainable Ireland.
“Over the past decade, we have received thousands of applications dedicated to promoting best practices in recycling and waste management.
“Their achievements and innovative approaches have continually impressed us.
“We eagerly anticipate this year’s entries and look forward to showcasing the remarkable efforts of business[es], community groups, and individuals across the country.”
