Irish Revenue officers seized 18,800 cigarettes at Rosslare Europort on Saturday, 13th of February, after they stopped and searched an Irish-registered car that disembarked a ferry coming from France.
According to Revenue, the car was identified in routine profiling and the cigarettes, branded as Ken, Marlboro, Marlboro Gold and Rothmans and originating from Moldova, were discovered concealed in the floor of the car.
The value of the seized cigarettes is over €9,900, and represents a potential loss to the Exchequer of nearly €8,600.
A 27-year-old man was interviewed in connection to the seizure, and a file is currently being prepared for the DPP.
The seizures are part of Revenue’s continuing enforcement operations to target the illegal importation, supply and sale of tobacco products.
