John Paul Scally has been named as the new managing director of Lidl Ireland, commencing 1 September.
Scally, who currently holds the position of operations director at Lidl France, replaces Brendan Proctor, who was recently appointed managing director of Lidl’s fledgling US operation.
Last month, Lidl announced that it would develop its US headquarters in Arlington County, Virginia, ahead of a planned store rollout in 2018.
Commenting on its US operation, Proctor said that the discounter is “excited to take this important step to launch Lidl's expansion into the United States and look forward to introducing American consumers to a different type of shopping experience.”
Proctor headed up Lidl Ireland for two years, having previously held the role of managing director at Lidl Austria.
He’s not the only former Irish Lidl executive working for Lidl in the US, with Gareth Reed, Lidl Ireland’s former portfolio/facilities manager, working for the Lidl US Real Estate & Central Services division, and Ken McGrath having recently completed a feasibility study for the retailer there.
