Scally’s SuperValu in Clonakilty, Co. Cork is a finalist for two international awards at the global IGD awards.
The store is shortlisted for the Store of the Year award and Diversity & Inclusion Award, and SuperValu is invited to a ceremony at London’s Tobacco Dock on 7 November to celebrate global food and the consumer goods industry.
The Awards
Scally’s SuperValu’s progress on Autism Friendly Shopping helped it secure a spot on the shortlist for the Diversity & Inclusion Award, according to a statement.
Additionally, the judges said they were impressed by the store’s quality of its food range and specialist offerings, in-store expertise, and sustainability initiatives.
The judges also cited the store’s gluten free bakery, its Food Academy progamme, and an apprenticeship programme to train fish and cheesemongers, butchers, and chefs.
Appreciation
“Our recognition highlights how independent retailers can go up against international chains by giving shoppers a range of local produce, excellent customer service and support for the local community,” said Eugene Scally, Scally’s SuperValu Clonakilty.
“Our success goes hand-in-hand with the loyalty we have seen from our customers, who we have been able to work with to gain recognition for Clonakilty as the first autism-friendly town in Ireland.”
