CBRE has said that a ‘scarcity of properties in the locations and schemes that retailers are specifically targeting’ is a challenge facing the sector as the traditional Autumn selling season kicks off.
In its Bi-Monthly Review, CBRE said that this scarcity ‘will force some pop-up or temporary retailers (who normally start to look for Christmas premises at this stage in the year) to opt for secondary streets and schemes this year.’
CBRE reported a ‘seasonal slowdown’ in transactional activity in the retail market in July and August, however many refurbishment and upgrade works are currently underway.
In planning news, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council recently granted planning permission for the redevelopment of Stillorgan Shopping Centre in south Dublin while the new owners of the nearby Frascati Shopping Centre in Blackrock, Co. Dublin are expected to proceed with plans to extend and refurbish the scheme in due course.
