Earlier this month, Checkout's sister publication ESM put out the call to its readers to vote for their favourite retailer Christmas ad, and it received a phenomenal response, with thousands of readers logging in to vote for their festive champion.
The results have been calculated, and Spar Ireland came out on top as Europe's favourite Christmas ad for 2022!
1. SPAR (Ireland)
Following on from a popular campaign that it launched in 2012, SPAR Ireland’s ‘Finding Christmas’ commercial showcases how Christmas can appear in various aspects of our daily lives.
SPAR went to great lengths to ensure that its updated ad was as impactful as its predecessor – according to the retailer, the girls in the café scene were originally featured as schoolgirls in the original short; some 100 metres of green silk were used to wrap the 'Wonderful Barn' (located in Celbridge, County Kildare) as a Christmas tree; and real-life drone pilots were used to create the lighthouse tree, including an 11-year-old, who is the youngest licensed drone racing pilot in Ireland.
The Christmas Advert, created by SPAR Ireland and advertising agency Publicis has been directed by the internationally renowned Chris Balmond who has previously helmed for Amazon and Guinness and produced by Andrew Freedman of Antidote.
The advert was filmed over five days at various locations across Galway, Kildare, Wicklow, Meath and Dublin.
