Spar has signed a four-year deal with The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) to become the convenience store partner of Irish soccer. It will also lend its name to the national five-a-side competition for boys and girls in 4th, 5th and 6th classes competition, renamed as the Spar National Primary 5's. The Spar Primary Schools 5 Programme saw over 1000 primary schools take part last year and will start this month and run through to May.
The deal continues Spar's longstanding involvement with sport, which has mainly been in athletics and running. The Spar Run with Ray 5K, a communal run held in several locations, saw participation of 20,000 last year. Spar's parent international brand has also been a major investor in European Athletics at the elite level.
Speaking at the announcement BWG Group Chief Executive, Leo Crawford commented; “We are delighted to have formed this partnership with the FAI. Like the FAI, we have a strong presence in communities throughout the country, so we feel this is a perfect fit."
“We have 420 high quality, conveniently located outlets in cities, towns and villages the length and breadth of Ireland. Our sponsorship of the FAI and our involvement with the SPAR Primary School 5s Programme will allow us to give something back to our loyal customers.”
