SuperValu Signs Contracts With Three Irish Suppliers Worth €1.2 Million

SuperValu has announced that it has signed deals worth €1.2 million with three Irish spirits suppliers.

The contracts will see Coole Swan, Darling Cocktails and West Cork Distillers supply a range of whiskeys, cocktails and cream liqueurs to SuperValu stores nationwide, creating 25 jobs.

The retailer’s decision to use local Irish suppliers comes in response to changing consumer tastes in alcoholic drinks.

Coole Swan is an Irish cream liqueur manufactured in Meath and West Cork distillers will supply SuperValu stores with their Drombeg, Lough Hyne and Kennedy whiskey ranges. Meanwhile, Darling Cocktails is the first luxury craft cocktail range on the Irish market, combining premium Irish spirits, liqueurs and natural flavours.

SuperValu Managing Director Martin Kelleher commented, “SuperValu is committed to supporting over 600 Irish suppliers and sourcing locally wherever possible, which represents a contribution of almost €2 billion to the Irish economy annually. These latest contracts highlight how we are helping Irish suppliers develop into the market leading companies of the future.”

“By purchasing from local suppliers, our retailers offer a shopping experience that is not only of exceptional quality and value, but is different and better and tailored to the local community. Our customers love to see local suppliers in our store as it reassures them that by shopping with us, they are supporting jobs in other local companies.”

John O’Connell of West Cork Distillers added: “As a key supporter of local producers, SuperValu was a natural choice when looking to secure our first retail listing and a key element of our company’s growth.”
