SuperValu, along with the Coeliac Society of Ireland, will host a series of instore evening events across Ireland, with the first taking place in SuperValu Lucan, on Tuesday 12 April.
The events are aimed at raising awareness of the Coeliac Society’s work, as well as showcasing the Health and Wellbeing aisles within selected SuperValu stores.
Guests will have the chance to learn about the support that the society offers to those with coeliac disease, as well as receiving a Food List that references all gluten-free products available in Ireland.
As well as sampling and promotions on gluten-free foods, each event will feature a talk by a local dietician on the signs and symptoms of coeliac disease, as well as on understanding food labels and gut health.
CEO of the Coeliac Society of Ireland, Gráinne Denning, commented, "The instore SuperValu events are a great opportunity for people who may have some of the symptoms of coeliac disease to meet with fellow coeliacs and also speak to a dietician.
"One in 100 people in Ireland has coeliac disease and it can be challenging for them to figure out what they can eat, as gluten is a common ingredient in many foods, including some not generally associated with wheat, barley or rye, such as gravy, soy sauce and beer."
James Bruen, SuperValu Trading Manager, added, "We are delighted to support the work of the Coeliac Society. Over the past number of years, we have seen a real increase in the demand for gluten-free products in our stores.
"We see these events as an opportunity to showcase our range of gluten-free products and to raise awareness of coeliac disease in Ireland."
