The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) served nine closure orders and one prohibition order in January for breaches in food safety legislation. Nine of the orders were issued by environmental health officers in the Health Service Executive (HSE) and one by local authority veterinary inspectors in Mayo County Council.
Four of the orders were issued under the FSAI Act, 1998 on Fei's Garden Restaurant, Balbriggan; Afghan Grill and Kebab, Dublin 2; Kebabish Original, Dublin 2; and Eddie Rockets, Arklow.
A further five orders were issued under European Commission (Official Control of Foodstuffs) Regulations, 2010 on Swan Bar, Cavan; Premises occupied by Mr Mohammad Rafi, Westmeath; Spar, Douglas Street, Cork, Adana Char Grill, Limerick; and Long Thanh, Dublin 3.
Prof. Alan Reilly, Chief Executive, FSAI commented, "It is not acceptable for any food business to potentially put their customers' health at risk. Every food business should be striving to meet the high food safety and hygiene standards that the majority of food businesses achieve on a daily basis."
Five successful prosecutions were also taken during the month of January, including one in relation to the sale of counterfeit vodka at Hughie's Bar, Cavan.
