Tesco has called on SuperValu, Dunnes, Lidl and Aldi to follow its lead and pledge a donation to the Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association, and complete the Ice Bucket Challenge.
Yesterday, Tesco Ireland announced that it will make a donation of €10,000 to the IMNDA following a spike in sales of bags of ice at its stores. Following Tesco chief executive Phil Clarke's ice bucket challenge, the rest of the Tesco Ireland team are to participate in their own challenge today.
“We’re taking the plunge today with a group ice bucket challenge and we’re nominating SuperValu, Dunnes, Lidl and Aldi to do the same," said Christine Heffernan, Corporate Affairs Director Tesco Ireland. "The Irish Motor Neuron Disease Association is a fantastic cause and we will be making a donation of over €10,000 from recent ice sales to the charity.”
Tesco reported sales of 66,000 bags of ice over the last two weeks, which equates to almost 8.5 million standard ice cubes.
