Talks at the Workplace Relations Commission aimed at resolving the Tesco and Mandate dispute over contract changes were adjourned after 14 hours with no agreement.
In a statement, the commission said that 'it is exploring various options for the resolution of the dispute with both parties, but is not in a position to advance the negotiations at this stage.'
It has asked both sides to consider their respective positions over the next two days, before returning to the Commission on Monday, 23 May.
It has also asked that neither side do anything, such as releasing statements or comments, that would "exacerbate an already difficult situation".
