Tesco Ireland has announced 100 new, carefully curated wines landing on shelves this autumn, in time for a cosy wine tasting at home.
Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or a casual sipper, it’s never been easier to explore new tastes from all around the globe.
With a variety of bold reds, crisp whites, fruity rosés and bubbly sparkling wines, there’s no better time to gather friends and host a wine tasting at home.
Tesco’s wine-buying manager, Fiona Whelan, has shared her top tips for hosting like an expert, including some pairings that you might not have considered.
Top Five Tips For A Wine Tasting At Home
- Select a variety of wines that showcase different regions and styles.
- Serve each wine at the right temperature: whites at 7-13º Celsius, reds at 13-18º Celsius, and sparkling at 4-10º Celsius.
- Use the correct glass for each wine: a wide-bowl profile for reds, a tulip-shaped bowl that is narrower at the top than the base for whites, and a stemless wine glass can work well for rosé.
- Try out some unique food pairings, like dark chocolate with red wine, sweet-and-salty popcorn to bring out the acidity of white wine, and fruit-flavoured jellies to complement sweet rosé wines.
- Remember the five esses of wine tasting: see the wine’s appearance, swirl to release aromas, sniff to pick them up, sip to let the wine coat your palate, paying attention to taste and texture, and savour, reflecting on the overall impression of the wine.
‘Step Out Of Their Comfort Zone’
Whelan says, “Our exciting wine range change sees over 100 new wines land on shelves, giving customers even more choice and variety coming into the autumn and winter months.
“We want customers to step outside of their comfort zone and try something new, rather than always reaching for their old reliable.
“There’s no better way to find your new favourite tipple than hosting a casual and fun wine tasting at home – grab a few friends and enjoy a cosy night in, exploring new flavours.”
Whelan recommends treating yourself to La Vielle Ferme Rosé (€12), the Wanderer Malbec (€14), Shallow Bay South African Sauvignon Blanc (€10) and Canti Prosecco Frizzante (€12) to kick off the tasting.
