Avoca has partnered with Dublin Airport and United Airlines to welcome passengers coming home and to those visiting Ireland for the first time. On Friday, 10 December at 7am, a team of Avoca staff welcomed United Airlines flight UA23 from New York home to Ireland and captured a series of heart felt and special moments as people were reunited with loved ones. Maoliosa Connell, director of marketing, Creative and Buying at Avoca, said, “It was incredibly heart-warming for us to be present in those moments and witness just how important it is to everyone to celebrate being able to spend time together this Christmas."
Donal Skehan, the newly crowned title holder of An Post’s Cookbook of the Year 2021, was on hand to kick off the Festive Season with SPAR on Friday 3 December. To mark the 11th year of SPAR’s sponsorship of the TV Cook’s show on RTÉ, SPAR ran a viewer’s competition this year to offer one lucky person the chance to join Donal for a private cookery lesson. Celebrating at Howth Castle Cookery School on Friday 3 December, competition winner Niamh Callaghan and her husband James joined Donal on a wintery evening to cook up a mouth-watering festive spread that would tempt any visitors on Christmas Day. With aprons tied and sleeves rolled up, Donal’s guests perfected their culinary skills in delivering perfect Pancetta wrapped Escalope of Bronzed Turkey and Baked Ham with an Apricot and Thyme Stuffing, accompanied by Cardamom, Honey and Black Pepper Root Veggie and Perfect Duck Fat Rosemary Roast Potatoes with Red Wine Reduction. The evening was topped off with Donal’s famous Tiramisu recipe. In keeping with the current season of Donal’s Family Kitchen, sponsored by SPAR, the winner’s menu was created by Donal using recipes that he loves to make for his own family. Commenting, Helen Lalor, marketing manager, SPAR said, “We’ve been so impressed with the current season of Donal’s TV show and as always we’re delighted to partner with Donal to bring a special prize to one of his many viewers. We love Christmas and this event felt like a really appropriate way to kick off the festive season under the Tree at SPAR”.
British retail sales rose faster than expected last month, helped by Black Friday discounts, early Christmas shopping and no lockdown restrictions that closed many shops last year, official figures showed on Friday. Retail sales volumes rose by 1.4% in November on a seasonally-adjusted basis and were 4.7% higher than a year earlier, when non-essential stores were closed to the public, the Office for National Statistics said. Economists polled by Reuters had on average forecast that sales volumes would rise by 0.8% on the month and be 4.2% higher than in November 2020. October sales were revised higher too.
FrieslandCampina has decided to reappoint Hein Schumacher as the CEO of the co-operative for a second four-year term, effective 1 January 2022. Chair of Zuivelcoöperatie FrieslandCampina U.A, Sybren Attema made the announcement on behalf of the supervisory board during the Members’ Council meeting, held on 14 December 2021. Attema stated, “FrieslandCampina is in the middle of a multi-year transformation, and hard work is being done on ensuring that the cooperative and the company are successful and future-proof. “For the supervisory board, the reappointment of Hein Schumacher is all about calm, continuity, and pressing ahead with the strategy already in place. We are confident that Hein Schumacher and his leadership team are on the right path for us and successfully deliver on our goal.”
