Among Tesco Ireland’s back-to-school deals is an early school uniform offer.
From Wednesday 3 July to Sunday 14 July, the retailer offered 25% off school uniform products, including footwear, with Clubcard prices.
In a move intended to “give kids the best start possible and leave parents with a bit of extra money in their pockets,” Tesco has encouraged parents, offered savings, and given itself a head start in the school uniform shopping numbers.
But it is not the only retailer operating early deals, with Marks & Spencer and Aldi offering similar July deals.
“In the last few years, we’ve noticed that more and more shoppers are looking to kit out the kids early,” says Eileen Murphy, brand marketing manager at Tesco Ireland.
“Maybe that’s in order to avoid the panic shop in the last week of August.”
Planning Ahead
Early purchasing can be key for families, especially as the government began issuing back to school allowances to thousands of families in early July.
Planning ahead ensures that parents are more likely to get the uniforms they are looking for without having to worry about the correct sizes still being in stock, and that they don’t have to worry throughout the summer about saving enough money for the expensive back-to-school period.
Murphy says, “For the little ones, the return to school feels like miles away during summer break, but we know parents are beginning to make plans as early as July.
“With that in mind, we place our promotions and offers for Back to School in mid-summer, to support families and give them as much time and opportunity as possible when planning for their Back to School purchases.”
For parents, where the summer does not feel like the same endless stretch as it does for children, and the months can swiftly slip by.
Tesco has also prepared for parents who may fear early purchasing, perhaps buying a full school uniform before a surprise summer growth spurt.
To remedy these concerns, Tesco is offering a 365-day quality guarantee for all school uniforms, allowing customers to return items they are not satisfied with for money back in-store within a year of purchase.
So, as shoppers move to stock up on uniforms early, Tesco and other retailers are meeting them at the starting line – a head start to avoid a scramble to the finish.
