Talks between farmer representatives and meat industry stakeholders concluded earlier today with an agreement being reached.
Both sides of the table praised the progress made through the talks, however, representative groups have said that progress was not made over the main issue - beef prices.
Agreements were made, however, on reviewing how factories grade cattle, and the specifications demanded from farmers and producers.
It was also agreed on the need for greater transparency all along the beef supply chain.
An independent study of price composition along the supply chain will be commissioned by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM).
Improving transparency along the supply chain and improving communication with the industry were two big concerns for farmers going into the talks, but some will be disappointed that there is no increase in beef prices.
