It is being reported that progress has been made on ‘a number of issues’ to boost transparency in the beef sector after tensions increased among Irish farmers last week.
According to RTÉ News, talks involving industry representatives and Government ages lasted until 2 am this morning (Tuesday, 13 August).
Signs Of Progress
It is expected that the talks will reconvene on Thursday or Monday next, according to the Irish Farmers’ Association.
The group also confirmed that “some progress had been made” on market transparency and the introduction of a price index.
However, the general sentiment among farmers is that more can still, and needs to, be done.
The majority of the industry is still unhappy that the beef price is currently below the cost of production.
