Amazon has appointed Dublin woman Alison Dunn as the country manager of Amazon.ie, set to launch in Ireland next year, RTÉ reported this week.
Dunn has worked with the Seattle-founded company for almost a decade, previously holding roles in both Amazon’s retail business and Amazon Web Services (AWS).
The global online store announced plans to launch an Irish website in May of this year, following on from the opening of a distribution centre in Dublin in 2022.
Amazon opened the distribution centre to improve efficiency for deliveries in Ireland, which subsequently paved the way for the website.
Businesses in Ireland can now register their accounts to sell items on Amazon to customers around the world, ahead of the website launch in 2025.
Over 1,000 Irish SMEs already sell products on Amazon, recording over €170 million in export sales last year, and more than €100 million in export sales outside of the EU.
The new store will also be supported by the five-year agreement that Amazon and An Post announced last year, streamlining delivery services around Ireland.
The online marketplace already employs 6,500 people in Ireland, across Cork, Dublin and Drogheda.
Speaking about the anticipated launch of the website, Dunn said, “Our teams across the country are incredibly excited about the launch of Amazon.ie in 2025, and are writing the next chapter of our story in Ireland.”
