Eurospar has announced that it intends to install an innovative self-checkout system in its stores across Ireland.
The system will be facilitated by NCR, a global leader in consumer transaction services, and Irish EPOS providers Leaders Enterprises Limited, who will supply software solutions.
In time, Eurospar expect nearly a third of transactions in outlets across Ireland will be conducted using this service.
BWG Foods retail development executive Declan Ralph claimed that the installation of self-service checkouts comes as a response to consumer needs, with customers taking kindly to the first system installed in Eurospar Kilkenny.
“While we were clear of the experiential and business benefits of deploying self-checkout solutions, we have also been driven by active requests from our consumers,” he said.
“The installation in Eurospar Kilkenny is an opportunity for us to better understand the impact of SCO [self-service checkout] on our operations, providing more options for our shoppers locally. The initial results have been very positive.”
“Like my customers, I am keen to embrace new technology,” said storeowner John McCarthy of the new system.
“It helps me run my business more effectively and makes my customers lives easier.”
