Heineken Ireland has reduced the waste it sent to landfill by 21%, and implemented new refrigeration that delivered an energy reduction of 35%, according to the company's latest sustainability report.
Last year, the company also reduced its electricity consumption by 3% compared to the previous year, and maintained a recycling rate of 100% in its on-trade sales volumes. “We are committed to making positive and long term investments in people, communities and the environment,” Declan Farmer, Corporate Relations Manager, Heineken Ireland said in a statement.
Heineken Ireland employees embarked on a day of volunteering in aid of the Simon Community last month, in a company-wide volunteering initiative dubbed ‘V-Day’. With the company shutting down its operations at 1pm, volunteering efforts began in a range of diverse activities including a farmers’ market within the brewery grounds, home improvements and gardening. Heineken’s V-Day formed part of the brewer’s long-term sustainability initiative, ‘Brewing a Better Future’.
